Hopefully the "Good News" doesn't mean bad
I too have really loved the dropping gas prices. Who would have ever thought fifteen years ago that we would be so excited over such a ridiculous price, 2.90. However with the continually lowering prices, people have began to relax. Hopefully it does mean that we "relax" off alternate fuel, thinking that there is now bigger and more important problems. Then in a few months when the fuel companies have captured us again, the prices will sore and we will have no choice but to pay it. So even with the lower gas prices we need to push even harder towards other types of cars and fuel.

Talking about alternative fuel.. I wanted to share thsi article that I just read..
“BRUSSELS — European Union governments gave formal approval Friday to a potentially costly system of capping greenhouse gases from any airline flying into or out of the trade bloc — just as the airline industry reported new evidence of the impact of a worsening economy.
Airline chiefs immediately criticized the decision, saying it would cost the industry at least 3.5 billion euros ($4.4 billion) each year to comply. The Europeans are “acting in a bubble — even in the middle of a global economic crisis,” said Giovanni Bisignani, the director general of the International Air Transport Association.
European justice ministers meeting in Luxembourg approved the greenhouse gas measures, which oblige airlines, regardless of nationality, that land or take off from an airport in the European Union to join the emissions trading system starting on Jan. 1, 2012.
Industries have complained bitterly about the costs of complying with the system, especially as the global economic situation has worsened. Many airlines also have fought hard to avoid inclusion in the system, saying they can ill afford the extra costs after a period of record high fuel costs.
The United States has also harshly criticized efforts to apply the rules to American-based carriers, maintaining the rules may violate international aviation agreements.
…
The inclusion of aviation in the carbon trading system will raise costs for airlines, which pay for a portion of their emissions permits to comply. The system also will raise costs for passengers if airlines, as expected, pass on the costs by raising ticket prices.
European Union climate officials say it is vital to regulate greenhouse gases from aviation because the sector is growing so quickly.

So, what do you think about it? I agree that some regulation has to be made. If the sector is actually growing and influencing our environment, we cannot ignore it. But I think they were too harsh on their decisions and that they are not being considered of the airlines and also the economy we are facing today. Because of the crisis, many airline companies have already suffered much, something like this would just help them finally wreck. They are right in their intentions, but I think they are going around it the wrong way.
It's sure is convenient that election day is upon us and those gas prices are falling fast. What will happen after the election is over?
I totally agree. I someways i think that maybe the squeeze on the economy and the high gas prices are a good thing, don't get me wrong i don't want things to get worse and i do hope that they get better; however, having things the way they are right now has kinda put our country in check. It has helped us see that we really do need to develop alternate fuel sources and to stop living outside our means. I think that many people in this country think that we are untouchable financially and that hard times and spending money wisely are for other countries. Anyone who has that mentality needs to take a good look at our countries history. In short I think it has given us all a much needed reality check.
I agree that the way our economy is now has given us a reality check. And it has helped us realize as a society that we need to find alternative fuel sources. But if our country stays how it is right now, it could get worse even though we think it has helped us. That's why it's important to vote for our next president because we don't want to be put in the same situation we are now.
